We help you live an integrated life where your own wellbeing is a primary feature, not just an afterthought
In the beginning...
I was just a kid who observed that changes to diet, spiritual practice, meditation and yoga changed the life of my parent so her hospitalizations and mental health challenges decreased.
Then I trained in nutrition to learn how to accomplish feeding myself and others well. I became a registered dietitian/nutritionist (RDN).
Then I learned from my patients and some further study that there are stages of illness and recovery, including for maintaining optimal blood sugar/glucose metabolism. I better understood how food, movement, cardiovascular health, stress resilience and mindset coordinate to help use glucose effectively. I became a certified diabetes care and education specialist (CDCES).
I trained as a yoga teacher (RYT) in the Integral Yoga tradition and became even more convinced that yoga is a complete science of wellbeing that can help heal mind, body and spirit. By working with clients at a Joslin Diabetes Center affiliate (University of Maryland), I saw and then tested the benefits of mind body skills including yoga in people with difficult to manage diabetes.
I was ripe for The Solution Method by Laurel Mellin RD, PhD, and her integration of stress science, attachment theory and neauroplasticity when I found the book and Laurel's methods. I trained to become a provider of the Solution Method and Emotional Brain Training.
Then I learned of the new field of health coaching. Enrolling in the Duke Integrative Health Coaching program gave me added language, understanding & skills for making change easily and effectively. I took the board certification to become a Health and Wellness coach (NBC-HWC).
When the field of yoga therapy was new, I became a yoga therapist (c-IAYT). I've found breathing practices, yoga nidra, yoga philosophy, mindset and postures to be personally and professionally useful.
Integration of these areas of science and wisdom is a wonderful, personally exciting and a continuing journey for me.
In the past I explained that I may draw from yoga or health coaching when partnering with an individual on nutrition.
Today, I trust that clients welcome that we may draw on varied wisdom traditions and skill repositories.
Just as psychotherapists tell me they are eclectic re: their skills, I too am learning I can trust the way I partner/guide or support clients can be a decision we make together based on the health and wellbeing area or need that arises.
